Prevention Alcohol and Drug Studies Course

This 45-hour Certificate and Continuing Education Program is appropriate for everyone who has a role in the field of prevention.

This workshop will review environmental strategies and prevention efforts that aim to change or influence community standards, institutions, structures and attitudes that shape individuals' behaviors. Focus is on SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework.


Learning Objectives:
·         Identify definitions and terms related to the prevention field.
·         Students will gain knowledge of both CSAP and NIDA prevention principles.
·         Be able to describe prevention models and theories.
·         Identify and review the influence and impact of social media in prevention.
·         Analyze the ethical conduct for professionals in prevention.

  • Who should attend?
  • Students will receive an attendance certificate in Prevention Studies and/or a 45-hour Continuing Education certificate. Students may utilize this certificate as part of CAADAC’s application process for California Certified Prevention Specialist (CCPS). See download for full manual.

AOD and mental health professionals, social workers and other human service workers interested in learning about alcohol and drug prevention. Also certified or licensed professionals seeking advanced Continuing Education hours.

Prevention Studies Course: Mental Health Systems, Inc. maintains responsibility for these educational activitieS and has the following approvals for this course.
Nurses: Mead Academy Mental Health Systems, Inc. is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (Provider #CEP 15343) for up to 45 contact hours.

LCSWs/MFTs: Course meets the qualification for up to 45 hours of continuing education credits as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (Provider #PCE 2280).

CAADE: California Association for AOD Educators (Provider #CP40-830-A-0311).

CAADAC: California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (Provider # 1S-01-478-1011)

CAARR: California Association of Addiction Recovery Resources (Provider #5046).

RAS: Breining Institute Registered Addictions Specialist (Provider #CEP0803031013-WRM-HS-CW)
Additional Information: This course is approved for CE's for AOD counselors who are already AOD certified and need advanced CE's. CAARR accepts these hours as part of the advanced classes to either upgrade to CAS II or complete your CAAAR hours.
