Dr. Philip Hanger Joins Mental Health Systems as New Vice President

December 15, 2011 – (San Diego, Calif.) - Philip Hanger Ph.D. will be joining the team at Mental Health Systems (MHS) beginning December 19. As Vice President of Mental Health Systems, Dr. Hanger will join Mental Health Systems’ leadership team in creating access, breaking down barriers, and assuring the delivery of innovative, cost-effective services for individuals and families living with behavioral health problems in the North County.

Mental Health Systems, Employment Services Awarded Three-Year CARF Accreditation

 San Diego County, Calif. – December 6, 2011 – The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International announced that Mental Health Systems (MHS), Employment Services program has been accredited for a period of three years for its community employment services: job development, job support, and job site training. The latest accreditation is the fifth consecutive Three-Year Accreditation that the international accrediting body has awarded to MHS, Employment Services.

MHS Offers Counseling During Operation Tip The Scale

October 21, 2011- Mental Health Systems, as a part of San Diego's multi-agency Methamphetamine Strike Force, visited the homes of known drug users in the Escondido, during a sweep aimed at getting offenders off the streets and back on the path to sobriety. The law enforcement operation, dubbed Tip the Scale, includes a chance for people to meet with MHS counselors before they're jailed for the night. Read more in the North County Times article:

North County Times (July 24, 2011) FORUM: Tip the Scale is working to make North County safer by Mike Barnett and John Richardson

 MHS and the San Diego Sheriff's Department collaborate on the Tip the Scale program. The program is geared to give drug users the opportunity to talk with substance abuse counselors who can guide them to available treatment resources and ensure they stay current with court-ordered drug counseling. In addition, family members receive information about community resources, including support services like Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous.

East County Magazine (July 21, 2011) – Assembly Committee Charts a Road Home for San Diego’s Homeless by Richard Darvas

 MHS Vice President Laura Otis-Miles provides testimony to the California Assembly’s Select Committee on Homelessness. In the second in a series of regional stops which include Sacramento and Los Angeles, the Committee convened in San Diego. MHS Hacienda Campus for Women and Children is a partner in a new venture with The Fresno Medical Respite Center, a collaborative effort that provides homeless people in Fresno a place to recuperate after a hospital stay. Read full article.
