Healthcare Reform Policy Updates – Framework for Regulating Essential Health Benefits

(January 2012)-The Federal Government released the planned framework for regulating Essential Health Benefits (EHB) on December 16, 2011. This determines what must be provided for Medi-Cal and almost all other insured individuals as of January 1, 2014, just two years from now. The most important aspects of the EHB for our future are as follows:

1. Insurance plans must cover mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment.
