Awaiting Supreme Court Ruling on Affordable Care Act

(April 2012) - Everyone is on pins and needles awaiting the Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act, which was discussed privately last week and will be written over the next three months. Even if the ACA is completely voided, the state still needs to implement Parity for Medi-Cal by 2014.

In California, the Health Benefits Exchange continues to move very rapidly, and experts believe California will move on with health care reform to the extent that the Supreme Court allows. For example, if the Individual Mandate is stuck down, California could adopt its own, as Massachusetts and other states have done.

The roll-out of AB 109 realignment continues unevenly across California, and the Mental Health and Alcohol and Drug realignment will be the subject of several legislative hearings in April and May.
