Domestic Violence-Fresno Area (view details)

Domestic Violence is all too common in the United States. In almost 20 percent of intimate relationships, couples slap, shove, hit or otherwise assault each other (this includes same gender as well as heterosexual relationships). Emotional abuse is even more common. Domestic violence is a crime, yet most victims endure abuse many times before they reach out for help. Clinicians are well trained to look for signs that a person is a danger to self or others, but often miss intimate partner violence patterns either because of lack of proper assessment or because victims are reluctant or ashamed to admit that there is violence inside the home. Health care providers have a responsibility to consider, recognize, evaluate and offer appropriate treatment or referrals to individuals and families living in violent relationships.
