Domestic Violence: Recognition, Prevention, and Intervention
This workshop is designed to assist counselors in recognition of signs of abuse, tools for assessment of lethality, intervention strategies and resources for victims. Legal aspects of domestic violence will be reviewed, including laws that protect victims, emergency protective orders, and restraining orders.
• Recognize the dynamics of abuse and the cycle of violence
• Identify signs or symptoms of abuse in adults and children
• Explore crucial elements in designing a safety plan for victims
• Describe the mechanisms of emergency protective orders and restraining orders
Target audience: This workshop is designed for counselors, licensed therapists, and staff working in mental health, addiction treatment or case management.
