Mental Health Systems, Inc. (MHS) was founded in 1978 to provide mental health and drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in an innovative and cost-effective manner. We continue to ensure that the delivery of these services conforms with the values highlighted on the cover of this directory. Our goal is to improve lives and instill hope by using new and creative treatment strategies while respecting time-proven methods of intervention.
Mental Health Systems, Inc. began by providing psychiatric day treatment and alcohol recovery services to adults in North San Diego County. MHS now operates nearly 120 programs in more than 100 geographic locations in Southern and Central California. Recently, we broadened our service area to include Baltimore, Maryland where we implemented our substance abuse case management services to serve the family court system.
The passage of Proposition 63 in California has enabled us to continue to grow by implementing Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) programs for the homeless mentally ill and the homeless mentally ill involved in the criminal justice system. In addition, we have continued to expand our work with children through the implementation of our Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS) in San Bernardino County. Another exciting innovation for MHS was the opening of the William R. Mead Training Academy, where students can obtain the academic hours needed to become certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors. The academy also serves to honor Dr. William Mead, who recently retired as the company’s Co-Founder and Clinical Director. Dr. Mead’s integrity, service and dedication to MHS will continue to be reflected in his on-going role as a member of the Board of Directors.
Using best-practices to develop our treatment protocols, our programs are designed to serve the needs of those individuals with behavioral health problems who either cannot afford privately paid services or for whom appropriate services are not otherwise available. Our services are publicly funded and serve the neediest segments of the population.
MHS provides leadership and advocacy for those issues that have the greatest need of public attention. We give back to the communities we serve by offering free training to both clinicians and family members.
We appreciate your interest in Mental Health Systems, Inc. and encourage you to write or call should you have further questions about our programs, values or goals.
Sincerely,
William R. Mead, Ph.D. Bill Eastwood, M.A.
